This workshop will show how SB70 Workforce Collaborative WIP grant funds were used to partner with post-secondary institutions and create high school level product design curriculum. In this curriculum, students were taught to visualize the future and make it a better place. Creativity, technical skills, and inventiveness were emphasized as students problem-solved to develop new product prototypes. Students applied new skills in rapid visualization, 2D and 3D sketching, fabrication techniques, and rapid prototyping to create product models. Today’s marketplace is rapidly changing and it demands smart design, visual appeal, and eco-friendly products for a global marketplace. Through this program of study, students were taught to incorporate these concepts into their vision. With these skills, students can pursue post-secondary education in Industrial Design with an eye toward careers across a multitude of industries such as furniture, medical, toys, electronics, auto, and manufacturing. Participants in this workshop will receive step-by-step handouts of sample projects and have the opportunity to take part in a hands-on, entry-level sketching exercise.
